Worship Ministries
What is
worship?
It can be defined as, “That attitude and those corporate and personal
acts of reverence that are the appropriate response of human beings to
God’s self-revelation.”
(Revell Concise Dictionary)
At
Stony Point Christian Fellowship we believe:
Ř
Worship is a Way of Life
Worship is not merely about singing songs at church every
Sunday. It is an attitude toward life that places God in His rightful
place at the center of our lives.
In Psalm 63 David describes a deep spiritual and physical
longing for God. He worships throughout the day and night. Worship is a
way of life for David.
“O God, You are
my God,
Earnestly I
seek You;
My soul thirsts
for You,
My body longs
for You,
In a dry and
weary land
Where there is
no water.
I have seen You
in the sanctuary
And beheld Your
power and Your glory.
Because Your
love is better than life,
My lips will
glorify You.
I will praise
You as long as I love,
And in Your
name I will lift up my hands.
My soul will be
satisfied as with the richest of foods,
With singing
lips my mouth will praise You.
On my bed I
remember You;
I think of You
through the watches of the night
Because You are
my help,
I sing in the
shadow of Your wings.
My soul clings
to You;
Your right hand
upholds me.” (vs. 1-8)
Ř
Worship is about giving – giving honor and respect to God
We come together on Sunday to offer Him praise,
adoration, reverence, respect, and the glory that is due to Him as the
Almighty God.
Ř
Worship is about serving
Romans 12:1-2 says, “therefore, I urge you, in view of
God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and
pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” Offering
ourselves is part of our worship throughout the week. We believe that
when we serve others, we serve God.
At SPCF we also
believe in:
Ř
Trinitarian Worship
We worship the Triune God, namely, God the Father, God
the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Ř
Individual Worship
We worship as individuals, believing that it is necessary
to have personal times alone with God – times of intimate surrender,
making ourselves available for God to do with us as He wills.
Ř
Corporate Worship
We worship together as the Body of Christ as we meet for
regular services and special church events. Our corporate worship may
include singing, clapping, raising our hands, bowing our hearts, or at
times even silence before the Lord.
Ř
Excellent Worship
We worship God by preparing ourselves and devoting our
time to give Him our best in everything that we do – through the music,
the instruments, the lyrics, and the content.
At
SPCF we gather to give honor, praise, and respect to the Almighty God.
We gather to proclaim that He is great and awesome in His mighty works.
We worship Him because He is the creator of all that is, and He, alone,
is worthy of our praise.
